Thanks for the fact-check.  Network issues here keep me from looking too
deeply, but I do see some QSO parties all for self-spotting.  Iowa, for
example (http://www.wa0dx.org/IAQSO/):  "Spotting on the packet clusters or
via internet is permissible, including self-spotting."

MARAC has an interesting twist that I could see myself supporting (
http://www.marac.org/cwrules.htm):  "Self spotting as a fixed station is
not allowed. Self spotting as a mobile is permitted."
