[WIQPmail] QSO Party and hours

Totally agree with Tim! Every QSO party can't be the FL or CA! Several of the mobiles come in from MN or IL for the reason of the event being concentrated and fast action. If it moved to more hours my involvement might be questionable. I admit to thinking like a CW favored QSO party guy, but from MN and WI with the propagation we get, the 7 or 10 (MN) hour events really work. Of my 734 contacts in the recent WI event, only about 125 were on 20 and ONE on 15 (KL7)! I tried hard to do more on these bands.

My vote is also to leave it as it is. We can't please everybody, but we can please a lot!

Except for one or two years I have always gone mobile for this contest and 7 hours of operating plus the two hours it takes to get to our starting point is more than enough drive time in one day. One of the things I like about this contest is that you can almost always find someone on one of the bands calling CQ and get a decent amount of contacts in a short period of time, if the time of the contest is expanded I think it will spread out the participants since everyone won't be on during the same time frame, this will make it much more difficult for the mobile stations to get their required contacts for each county that they operate in. Also by expanding it I think it may lead some of us who are not county hunters or big contesters to not bother operating.

>> My two cents worth on the hours of WIQP. This is my favorite contest, not just because it's my home state. I think the timing is just right. State QSO parties that last 12 hours, 24, 36 etc require a massive time commitment in order to score anything respectable. The level of activity in such contests is a lot lower at any particular time in all but the largest states. The seven-hour window compresses activity and allows everyone a chance to get a good score. The big national and international contests can run longer and maintain a high level of activity at all times. I think WIQP is just right and allows an old guy like me to get a competitive score without killing my back in a chair for 12 hours or more.
